There are at least thirty-five different types of Acupuncture which can be given the name ‘Five Element Acupuncture’. The style we practice here at Enjoy Vibrant Living is based on the teachings of Professor J.R. Worsley and further evolved through the work of Thea Elijah. The core understanding of this style is that each of us has an underlying brilliance. If we do not bring that brilliance into the world, we will become ill. The process of facing the illnesses we have and transforming them into health assists us to bring the best parts of ourselves into the world, even more than before we were ill.
The practitioner identifies the underlying brilliance of the patient and observes how their specific physical and mental/emotional complaints are directly related to this brilliance being ignored. Through treatment, health and vibrancy is drawn out which dispels the symptoms we may have. This affords us the opportunity to transcend our personal lenses and view points and experience reality as it is.
Each of the Five Elements represents a different quality of brilliance which corresponds to the five seasons of Winter, Spring, Summer, Late Summer and Autumn. As an example, one person might be very funny and outwardly loving like the element of Fire and Summer time, but inwardly they may be sad and suffer from anxiety. Another person may very meticulous and structured like the element of Metal and elegance of Autumn, but as a result they may suffer from allergies or asthma. In both of these examples, their true strength is underneath their mental, emotional, and physical issues. As the practitioner treats the points associated with these virtues, the illnesses begin to resolve as the virtues are drawn out.
This Acupuncture style believes that all pathology – be it physical, mental, or emotional – can be traced back to the organ systems and mental/emotional aspects related to this core element or core brilliance. Although we may have multiple symptoms relating to multiple elements or organ systems, if this core element is treated, the whole system will be rectified. The negative symptoms will go away, and in their place will be the emergence of health and vibrancy.
